We are honored to host Air Conditioning in the Great Hall/Long Hall complex at Plummer Park. This will be our second show in the space, after 2022’s High as the Sky.

Completed in 1938, the landmark buildings are notable examples of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the California State Register. In August, West Hollywood’s Historic Preservation Committee granted the complex “Local Cultural Resource” status, saving them from the threat of demolition.

Great Hall/Long Hall is known for its cultural importance to West Hollywood as the meeting place for ACT UP/LA during the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 80s and 90s. ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) was a vital, grassroots force in pressuring the federal government to acknowledge the crisis — to accelerate research, lower costs, and increase access to treatment.

Great Hall/Long Hall is the only structure in West Hollywood built by the Work Projects Administration (WPA), a New Deal-funded initiative during the Great Depression.

From 1983-2011, Great Hall served as the home to the Los Angeles Audubon Society. In the early 2000s, Long Hall was home to the community’s Russian Library.

As with all of West Hollywood, Great Hall/Long Hall sits on the lands of the Gabrieleño Tongva and Gabrieleño Kizh peoples.
